How long have you been training Gun Dogs?

I have been training my own working Gun Dogs for over 30 years. I have successfully run the Leconfield Spaniel Club Training scheme for several years and am now the Chairman. I have been running my dogs in a beating line, Picking up, and shooting over my own dogs for over 30 years. I am also experienced in training and competing with my dogs both at Club Level and Trial level. I have also had many years experience teaching my clients to train their dogs, many of whom work their dogs on professional shoots and have won and been placed in competitions now as well. Please see the Testimonials page.

What makes you different to the other Trainers I have already tried?

I tend to make my lessons less about training your Gun Dog and more about training you. I also train with a great deal of humour to try and make the sessions as much fun as possible. If you are having fun and enjoying yourself, then so will your dog.

What accomplishments have you made through out your Gun Dog Training career?

I have been placed First in a Field Trial, and have achieved numerous First places at Open and Novice working tests. I have many years teaching experience which helps me assess your objectives and goals, and carefully work on a plan for your Gun Dog Training.

I'm very confused, there is so much information and different places to train my dog, why should I choose you?

You are right and not everyone will decide I am the right trainer for them. We all have different personalities and so not everyone can possibly get on with everyone else. However I am a very honest trainer. When I begin with your Gun Dog Training Program, I make a commitment to you, and ask you to do the same for 5 lessons. This way we can both get to know each other, focus on what you want to achieve, and hopefully make small steps towards this. Im also convinced Gun Dog Training should be fun and you must enjoy the lessons and working with your dog. Try hard to make sure this is achieved for you.

Is my dog suitable for Gun Dog Training?

You are correct to ask this question and I look at three elements. Basic Obedience, Natural Ability, and the right Temperament. During our first session all of these things will of course be assessed.

When do you hold lessons?

This varies from day to day. I will agree a series of dates and times with you after your initial assessment.

How many handlers are in the Group Gun Classes?

This again will vary from day to day and week to week. However I guarantee to never have more than 5 handlers in any one lesson.

Where is your ground and do you offer lessons all year round as many seem to stop lessons in the shooting season.

I teach on private ground in Cranleigh, Surrey and my Gun Dog Training is offered all year round. The ground is a mixture of woods, fields, lakes and different terrain to test your dog and to vary the lessons as much as possible. Private ground is of course essential as we introduce your dog to the gun.

Do we have to pay for classes upfront?

I will see you initially for a 1-2-1, cost £40, payable on the day. After this assessment I will discuss with you the correct way to move forward, with either a series of 1-2-1 classes or Group Classes, cost depends on size of group, but rates from £20 to £30. All payable on the day, and full payment is required with less than 48 hours notice to cancel.

I have a puppy, when can I start?

Your puppy must have had all initial inoculations and waited the time designated by your vet before being allowed outside of your garden.
